Readers Blog: Recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Irish4Israel welcomes the decision of the American government to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. For more than 2,000 years the Jewish people have yearned to return to Jerusalem, that desire became a reality in 1967.

America’s recognition of Jerusalem in the year 2017, marks 50 years since the liberation of Jerusalem. Israel has granted and ensured complete religious freedom to all the three Abrahamic faiths and will continue to do so. This stands in contrast to the past when Jordan prohibited Jews from praying at the Western Wall.

The Palestinian leadership has threatened violence. Israelis have faced the violent jihadist threat since before the foundation of the state. These threats are a continued attempt by Palestinians to use violence as opposed to direct negotiations.

The American administration is going to build its new embassy in the western, modern part of Jerusalem, which will remain under Israeli control.

We hope the path that has been bravely ploughed by the American administration will lead to an increasing number of states, recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving their embassies there.
