Bank of Ireland has reported a pre-tax loss of almost €1bn for the six months to the end of September.
Results released this morning also show the value of bad loans and debts owed to the bank that are unlikely to be repaid hit €1.8bn over the period.
In a statement Bank of Ireland described the past 12 months as "challenging".
