The Economist magazine says a Milan court has rejected defamation claims against it lodged by Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi. The Economist magazine says a Milan court has rejected defamation claims against it lodged by Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi.

Mr Berlusconi had filed suit claiming defamation for a story the weekly ran in its April 20, 2001 issue, during an earlier Berlusconi government.

The cover of the magazine carried the title 'Why Silvio Berlusconi is unfit to lead Italy'.

The Economist said in a statement today that a Milan court has rejected all of Berlusconi's claims and required him to cover The Economist's legal costs.

Berlusconi's office in Rome had no immediate comment on the case.
