Fine Gael MEP calls for relaxation of airport liquid laws
04/09/2008 - 09:04:07

MEPs are calling for a relaxation of the laws surrounding the confiscation of duty free liquids at airports.

There has been a surge in complaints from passengers travelling from outside the EU, who use hub airports such as Heathrow and Amsterdam on their way to their final destination.

Fine Gael MEP Avril Doyle has said these people should be allowed to buy duty free products in good faith.

She claims it is causing huge anti-European sentiment, particularly among those who recently travelled across several hubs to Beijing for the Olympics.

"Many competitors and their families went out to Beijing to support their teams and purchased duty free in good faith which was taken from them at hub airports in Europe," she said.
